# 73 - Hope at K & A

                                          "Hope at K & A"

Fellow Art Lovers:

Here’s another look at my new neck of the woods, K and A, which is short for the intersection of Kensington and Allegheny Avenues in North Philadelphia. The title of this painting is “Hope at K and A,” and I hope that meaning comes through to you when you look at the work.

Frankly, I see so many scenes around here that I wish I had more time, more canvases and more brushes and paint. But rather than blither on about my feelings for the place, the people, I want to attack another subject.

But wait, just a few words first: It felt really good to paint this scene according to the emotions I feel, and like I’ve probably repeated many times, that’s been happening more and more.

Okay, that was enough. No, this time I want to talk about technique. When I look at this completed painting, I see that I’m automatically adopting more and more diverse techniques. That is, I see that I’m using more methods for preparing the paint and moving it around on the canvas. Basically, in very simple terms, painting is a process for mixing colors to arrive at the colors you want; achieving the liquidity of the paint that meets your needs, from very liquid that forms only a thin layer to full and thick that you can pile on the canvas; and then how you apply the paint to the canvas, which is the position and the stroke of your brush, palette knife or other tools.

Well, over time, this process has been developing outside my control. And now, looking at this painting, I see the result.
