Studio #407, 915 Spring Garden St.

Yes, that’s me. I’ve been talking a lot in my blog about my intention to paint more and more paintings of city scenes and people. Well, I’ve been working pretty hard, and I have a series of new paintings ready for the upcoming open-studios event at our building, 915 Artists (above).

Of course, it goes without saying that I’d love to see you at the event, so that I can show you my work and get your input on it. Frankly, the more I paint these city scenes and people, the better I feel about it. I’ve been pushing myself, and I feel I’m in greater command of my brush, and the paintings are more expressive. Maybe I’m getting closer and closer to achieving true freedom of expression.

Here are two examples.

First, “View from 915 Artists.” This is a larger version, about four feet by four feet, of the smaller painting in my last blog. Frankly, I liked that painting a lot, and I wanted to do it on a larger scale. I think the painting works., even though I did learn some lessons in painting it. Of course, I could not just paint the same painting. I had to make sure the painting had the appealing simplicity that the smaller version has, and, at the same time, make sure that the surface of the painting is rich.

The larger version will be available, but the small version is committed to an exhibit in Center City, Philadelphia.

Second, “Red Tights.” Every once in a while, I walk down the street and see a perfect scene that cries out to be painted. “Red Tights” is one of them. I happened to be in Northern Liberties, and these two young men were walking their dogs. You be the judge, but I believe the shows a nice scene in an interesting way.

What do you think? I know that I’ve been doing a few dogs lately, but they are good subjects.

I hope to see you on April 28 or 29. If you can’t make it, just email me, and we can arrange another time.

Thanks for listening, and thanks for your continued interest and support.
